If the UK is to have any chance of achieving its net zero carbon target by 2050, the existing building stock will have to be improved considerably with a comprehensive retrofit plan to improve thermal performance, reduce energy consumption and upgrade heating systems.

It is well known that Britain’s housing stock is some of the oldest and poorest performing in Europe. With nearly six million houses built before 1919, the challenge before us is quite daunting as a good proportion of the UK’s 29 million homes will need at least some improvement to reduce the 17% of total carbon emissions that comes from housing.

A Retrofit Assessor will need access to your entire property during the assessment. It is a non-intrusive on-site assessment, which includes the following:

  • a Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure (RdSAP) assessment
  • a detailed floor plan
  • a condition report which is a room by room assessment that details the overall condition of windows, walls and services
  • an occupancy assessment, which involves speaking directly with the home owner to determine how they use the property, and what their fuel bills are

A retrofit assessment will typically take longer to complete in comparison to your standard energy assessment (mainly due to the increase of information required).

Moreover, Retrofit Assessors will likely be working closely with a Retrofit Coordinator who is essentially the project manager for any whole house retrofit project delivered in accordance with PAS 2035.
